A translator is someone who converts or translates the written word or concepts from one language to equivalent concepts in another language, whereas an interpreter translates orally or through sign language interpretation.

A translator needs to be fluent in English and in one or more other languages in speech, reading and writing, and needs to be accurate and clear in translations. People need to read the translation as if it is the original so it must flow as the original, while keeping the facts accurate. Cultural references and slang may not be able to be translated literally. Having a basic degree would be advantageous but not essential. Working experience is very important so if this career appeals to you ensure that your computer skills are good and your competence with your language choices.
